During the last school holidays, Fransk kulturhus once again organised creative French holiday camps for children. After French comics last summer, it was science to be this time in the spotlight!
Science in all its variety
From Monday to Friday, the group of young scientists carried out unexpected and original experiments to learn about the world and share adventures in French. We created and painted salt-dough volcanoes and witnessed a volcanic eruption thanks to our secret ingredients! We also used paper flowers with water and observed the melting of ice thanks to the salt’s action. The children used the material to experiment, learn and practice.
Of course, we also took advantage of our outdoor environment, right in the center of Oslo, during outings to local parks and playgrounds. We even built an insect hotel on one of the structures located in the Kings’ park.
Visit to the technical museum
We also took the bus to spend a day at the Technical Museum of Norway (Norsk Teknisk Museum). What an adventure!
Lego construction, museum visit, speed race, photo-souvenirs…we did not notice time passingby and the children left the premises with a souvenir medal rewarding their success in the Lego competition. Congratulations to them!
Pedagogy at the heart of the experience
Throughout the week, educational material was made available to the children who created their own logbook! Photos, drawings, collage, writing…everyone built their own souvenir album using their imagination and according to their wishes.
All the proposed activities were chosen with a pedagogical angle aimed at creating exchanges, formulating hypotheses and sharing a common project within the group. Regardless the level of French, everyone was able to actively participate thanks to a pedagogical approach designed in accordance with both the needs of the group and the aptitudes of each child. The difference in language level is not an obstacle to the smooth running of our holidays camps, on the contrary! It is an asset that allows children to learn to cooperate and help each other.
Nice French breaks in our library
During their “free time”, the children took advantage of the resources of the library and made ample use of our great collection of board games. There was something for every taste and wishes! The children also enjoyed an animated film in French!
